描述

形态特征

常绿乔木，罕灌木。大枝轮生。冬芽显著，芽鳞多数。叶有两种，一种为原生叶，呈褐色鳞片状，单生于长枝上，除在幼苗期外，退化成苞片；另一种为次生叶，针状，即通常所见之针叶，常2针、3针或5针为1束，生于苞片的腋内极不发达的短枝顶端，每束针叶基部为8-12个芽鳞组成的叶鞘所包围，叶鞘宿存或早落，针叶断面为半圆或三角形，有1或2个维管束。雌雄同株；花单性，雄球花多数，聚生于新梢下部，呈橙色，花粉粒有气囊；雌球花单生或聚生于新梢的近顶端处，授粉后珠鳞闭合。球果2年成熟，即第1年雌球花授粉后，次春始受精而于秋季成熟，球果卵形，熟时开裂；种鳞木质，宿存，上部露出肥厚的部分称为“鳞盾”，在其中央或顶端的疣状突起称为“鳞脐”，有刺或无刺；种子多有翅；子叶3-18，发芽时顶着籽粒出土。

共100余种，中国产22种10变种，分布几乎遍布全国；另自国外引入16种2变种。
